Christmas of 2022

    Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year. Or so they say. December 24, the day before Christmas, I woke up with a migraine so bad that I couldn’t breathe and open my eyes. It was a struggle to simply continue to just lie down and let it fade because the pain wouldn’t decrease no matter what I do. My stomach, chest and eyes hurt. My head felt like it was being hit by a large blunt object. With all this pain crashing down at me, I couldn’t even remember it was the day before Christmas, since it didn’t feel like it at all.

    Personally, I didn’t like Christmas for the gifts, even though I do like gifts. To me, it is very important because it is that time of the year where our family would watch Christmas movies with such beautiful messages about life and Christmas. This holiday is one of those rare moments where we can be complete and we get to spend time together by watching movies. I also love our hearty discussions while eating delicious meals. I’ve always loved spaghetti, but around December 26-28, I got stomachaches from eating too much spaghetti with too much sauce, so I got really panicky around food and was very hesitant to eat anything.

    Despite the new trauma and me getting sick every now and then during the holidays, Christmas will always mean a lot to me. I’m glad I get to experience another Christmas with my family. I wish I get to experience more Christmases with my family and loved ones. I celebrated Christmas eve with a smile and the same longing I’ve had. I’ve longed for a Christmas with my friends. It doesn’t have to be so extravagant; just a little get-together in a simple café or in one of our favorite stores like National Bookstore. One thing’s for sure, ever since the pandemic happened, Christmas will never be the same again.
